Inhibition of p53 transcriptional activity with pifithrin-α rescues zinc deficiency-induced cranial neural tube defect.
Culture of a 9 somite VenMyr mouse embryo with both 15μM TPEN and 40μM pifithrin-α, an inhibitor of p53 transcriptional activity, allows cranial neural tube closure albeit this process is delayed and not completely normalized (closure by 11hr±27min; n=6).
