A series of sagittal slices through an E16.5 mouse foetus stained with 0.1% ruthenium red in 50% ethanol and imaged using a 40kVp/60kVp microscopic dual energy CT (microDECT) imaging protocol yielding two material fractions. Bone mineral (hydroxyapatite) is displayed in green, ruthenium red is displayed in magenta. Note that the histogram of the ruthenium red material fraction was clipped to discard soft tissues and only to show cartilage.
