MES island located far from epithelial surfaces removed by apoptosis. Confocal live imaging of GFP expression in E15.5 Crect^Tg/0; R26^mTmG/+ secondary palate sagittal section shows an island that is distant from any epithelial surface exhibiting apoptotic appearance and progressive shrinkage. Arrowheads indicate characteristic blebbing behavior of apoptotic cells. Images were captured every 15 minutes for 20 hours. Scale bar, 15μm.
