Explant of the Clock and Wavefront Self-Organizing model creates circular waves without a phase value pre-pattern. Simulated explant obtained from the whole posterior part of the tail in the Clock and Wavefront Self-Organizing model (Fig. 5L to the right). Simulated Wnt (u) and Notch (v) signaling are shown side-by-side. The virtual explant is generated by making a radial projection along the anterior-posterior axis for the whole posterior part of the tail, with cells in the center in an oscillatory regime (k1 = 1.0) and outermost cells in an excitable regime (k1 = 2.3). The cells initially have low values of u and v. In agreement with experiment (Hubaud et al., 2017), oscillations at the center of the explant propagate towards the periphery.
