Waves in mixed cell explants. Mixed explants from the Sevilletor implementations of the CWS and CG model where u/Wnt and v/Notch signaling are shown side-by-side (Fig. S28). Mixed explants of the Clock and Wavefront Self- Organizing (CWS) model generate periodic phase waves with a sustained rotating pattern due to the excitable behavior of the cells and local synchronization. The Clock and Gradient (CG) model allows local synchronizations of oscillatory behavior between cells to promote rotating patterns.
