Simulation of Hydra tissue regeneration without morphogen. Simulation results without coupling to a morphogen field showing a regenerating tissue spheroid initiated with a partially ordered fiber configuration (Fig. 7C; see supplementary Materials and Methods for details). The tissue deformations and the dynamics of the nematic are modeled through 30 recurring global fiber contraction events (the cycle is indicated). The spheroid is shown from a top view centered on one of the actin foci and a side view. The tissue selforganizes into a configuration with four +1/2 defects.
