Movie 8

Centrosome dynamics during epithelial cell division.
Top (top) and side (bottom) views of a wt epithelial cell expressing the MT marker Tub:GFP (green) and centrosome marker Spd-2:RFP (red). Upon entry into mitosis the apically localized centrosomes (arrows) descent towards the nucleus (-8 to -5 min). Around the nucleus, the centrosomes nucleate astral MTs (white arrowheads, -5 and -4 min) and separate towards opposing poles around the nucleus. There they associate with the acentrosomal chromatin generated MTs at NEB (yellow arrowheads, 0 min). Note that the nucleus (center indicated by white dot) also migrates from a basal to a more apical position.

Sequential activities of Dynein, Mud and Asp in centrosome–spindle coupling maintain centrosome number upon mitosis
