The whole reconstructed glomerular basement membrane (GBM, gray) had a sac-like shape, with afferent and efferent arterioles (red) entering and exiting the mouth of the sac (also called the glomerular hilum). Part of the intraglomerular mesangium (green) is visible behind the glomerular hilum.
