In vivo effect of the PLC inhibitor, U-73122, on the ciliary arrest response. A treatment with U-73122 (3 or 10 μM) inhibited the 10 μM ACh-induced ciliary arrest response in a fresh preparation of the Ciona pharynx. The red arrowhead indicates the timing of the ACh injection. A treatment with 3 μM U-73122 partially blocked the response (occurrence of inclination, but not necessarily the cessation of beating), while no clear sign of ciliary arrest was observed with 10 μM U-73122 in most cases.
