High-speed video and laser vibrometry responses to sound in a monarch caterpillar. Monarch butterfly caterpillar responses to a sound tone recorded with a high-speed camera and laser vibrometer. In the graph, green indicates the sound waveform recorded from the microphone, and blue indicates the trace from the laser vibrometer that shows caterpillar movements. Large fluctuations in the blue waveform show six consecutive flicks of the caterpillar. Duration of the tone is 3 seconds.
