Sample high-speed recording illustrating brief stationary episodes (microstops) during forward locomotion at an intermediate walking speed of 12.4 mm s^-1 (original speed, slow motion (x0.5); with associated heat map). High-speed videos were recorded at a sampling rate of 500 frames per second (for detailed analysis see Table S2: #4, and Fig. 2C i).
