Movie 2.
Navigating the Plasmid Database. To find any plasmids that meat specific criteria, one can use the upper right hand search window and entering your query term (in this case, “Cre”). We suggest then going to the Layout menu and selecting “List View” as this is more manageable and all records that contain this term can be easily scrolled through and visualized simultaneously, rather than in the individual record view. In our database, we highlight plasmids that we cannot find glycerol stocks or DNA for, as these need to be found or replaced. When you find a plasmid that may be of interest, select it, then tap the “plasmid form” tab at the top, and it will bring up the record view. You can then enter another search term, such as “pME” to view every pME (middle entry) plasmid and return to list view. We would also note that using a Dymo label printer, we use the database to print plasmid labels for the side and tops of Eppendorf tubes (1.7 mL) to eliminate poor labelling and misidentification of plasmids and e. coli stocks. When you chose this option, ensure you select only the record being viewed (rather than the entire database).
